It is a fact of life that women have periods. Typically once a month, women will have to deal with their period. It is often a painful time, but during this time a number of women find that their desire for sex increases. They want sex, but period sex is one of those taboo subjects that many don’t like the sound of.
They imagine that it will look like that scene from The Shining where the lift doors open and the entirety of the corridor ends up bathed in a sea of red. Period sex isn’t like that at all. In fact, it might not actually be as bad as everyone seems to think it is.
Why we don’t like it
There are plenty of reasons why the thought of having sex while on your period can be a huge turn off. For a start, most people don’t feel particularly sexy at this time. Whether you are constantly swapping tampons or using pads, it is hard to feel attractive.
This often combines with the fact that periods can be messy. No, we aren’t making a revolutionary statement with that fact, but it is often the main concern about sex on your period. Periods involve blood, which means that your sheets are going to end up with some of the red stuff on them at some point. It might not be enough to turn your white bedsheet into the Japanese flag, but it will be enough to be noticeable to you and your partner.
Period sex means one thing is inevitable – you and your partner will end up with blood on you. It’s going to happen, and that is enough to turn people off. The world we live in makes us think that periods are gross and disgusting, and the thought of having that on us makes us freak out.
Why you should have it
However, really we all need to work on getting over being grossed out by periods. It is perfectly normal to have sex while on your period. In fact, there are plenty of reasons why we should be getting down and dirty at this time of the month. For a start, you aren’t going to need things such as lube, as period blood is an effective lubricant.
As I said earlier, periods are painful. A lot of women will curl up on the sofa with a hot water in an attempt to stop the pain somewhat. Considering that most flows last between two and seven days, that is a lot of pain to deal with. However, orgasms can relieve cramping. Orgasms are a natural pain killer, meaning that you can have fun and stop the pain at the same time.
Plus, orgasms can help in other ways. The contracting of your uterus means that your lining will shed faster. This means that you can actually reduce the length of your period. Another big bonus? Most women find that we are hornier when our period comes in, so why shouldn’t we take advantage of this libido increase?
Taking the mess out of period sex
It isn’t as messy as you might think that it is, but if you really want to avoid making too much of a mess at this time of the month, there are a few things that you can do.
Shower sex is perfect for period sex. Think about it. It’ll feel incredibly kinky and any mess will get washed away. This means that you can focus on having fun instead of worrying that you may get some blood on the sheets.
Sometimes, however, you just won’t feel up to fucking in the shower. You might decide to simply keep things in the bedroom. If so, grab some towels you don’t mind getting a little dirty and lay them down. Keep some wet wipes to hand, just in case, and get into the elevated missionary position. You can use the towels to lift up, making clean-up even easier!
Your thoughts
Period sex seems to be an incredibly controversial subject for many people. They feel as though it will be messy and disgusting, when really it is one of the best times to have sex. The need for lubricant is pretty much eliminated, and it can really help with the cramps. I don’t know about you, but that sounds ideal.
