Air New Zealand is at the centre of a storm after it’s flight safety film was pulled amid allegations it was ‘sexist’.
The film featured models dressed in bikinis demonstrating safety procedures, such as putting on a lifejacket, and activating an oxygen mask.
A Petition
Well, it didn’t take long for someone to get offended and start a Change.org petition to stop Air New Zealand using the video. That person was Natasha Young and she had some very strong things to say regarding the issue.
“This video completely disregards passengers who find it offensive,” she said.
“A safety video is to alert passengers on what to do in an emergency; it should not be an excuse to objectify the sexualized female body,” added Young.
Well, she seems like a barrel of laughs.
The petition claimed heard from parents who were concerned about their children’s “impressionable nature”, from people who were unable to watch because of “religious beliefs” and from people with body image issues.
It gained over 11,000 signatures.
There video features prominent models Christie Brinkley, Hannah Davis, Jessica Gomes, Ariel Meredith and Chrissy Teigen. It has to be said, they look absolutely beautiful.
In response Air New Zealand have stated that the change was scheduled anyway.
A spokeswoman said: “We typically change out our safety videos every few months.
“As scheduled we began the process of phasing in the Bear Essentials of Safety video featuring Bear Grylls on our fleet around a week ago and this process is almost complete.”
Conflicting Thoughts
OK, I am not sure where I stand on this one. I will say that there are many cultures where watching scantily clad young ladies is a big no-no, so you have to be wary about offending them. I may not be religious myself, but I respect the beliefs of anyone who is. Gorgeous women should not be forced down their throat.
It’s this ‘objectifying the sexualised female body’ claptrap that has me banging my head against the wall.
Rampant feminism has made beautiful women showing off their gorgeous body some sort of crime. These militants want women dressed up in wooly jumpers.
Being beautiful isn’t something to be ashamed of. People should be allowed to make their own choices in life, and if theirs is to do modelling then so be it. They shouldn’t be accused of cheapening their own sex by their actions.
The Edinburgh escorts are sometimes the victim of such nonsense. Thankfully they can make their own mind up about what they want to do.
That is what real freedom is!
