Scottish TV star and model Gail Porter has recently revealed that she has received treatment for sex addiction, after her compulsion left her needing to get help.
Linked to bipolar
The star believes that her sex addiction is linked to her bipolar disorder, and that resolving the problem of her sex addiction would lead to her understanding and coping better with the bipolar disorder. There is no cure for sex addiction like there is with a headache. There isn’t a pill you can take to make it better, and so Porter went looking for some solutions.
Self-help group
“I went to a sex addicts’ group,” she said in a recent interview about her addiction. Being in a group with other sufferers it said to help, but she felt it was too distracting for everyone.
“When we came out everyone was really horny. The girls ended up having to go to a female only group.”
The female only group seemed to provide better support for each other, and Porter feels she now has a better handle on her addiction.
Awareness of addictions
Admitting that you have an addiction is difficult, especially when it is something like a sex addiction where people don’t properly understand it. In fact, a lot of people still think it doesn’t exist, and that it is just perversion. That isn’t the case, and Gail Porter’s bravery when speaking out about her own addiction proves that we need to raise awareness of it.
There are many places online claiming to have sex addiction tests to diagnose yourself, but you should speak to your doctor about the issue. They’ll be able to recommend the right type of sex addiction therapy for you, and get you the help you need.
